A few posts back I told you about our cat of 12 years (Maverick) and his episode of vestibular syndrome. He is recovering, but still a very ill cat. He can now hold his head up for short periods of time, so he has started eating his own cat food and does not require being fed from a syringe. However, he becomes totally exhausted after just a few bites and I have to hold his head up for him to finish the meal. He still cannot walk...will drag himself on the rug...which also wears him out. He has finally used the litter box (with much help getting there), so no need for medical help there.
He spends much of the day in his kennel and is ready to crawl back in it only after a short time out eating and stretching. There seems to be an element of comfort of being enclosed in the quiet, familiar hut with his bedding.
It is amazing how attached you grow to the pets in the family. He is so pitiful and I feel so sorry for him. He does not understand what has happened to him and even though we are giving him great care and much love...our words mean nothing and do not reassure him that "this too shall pass." So we will continue to baby him though this rough time and hope that it passes soon. Thanks to all of you who have asked how he is doing!
