This morning, about 2:30AM, we were awakened by the sounds of cats fighting. Lots of screeching and loud growls, right outside of our window . It has happened several times before as there are three stray cats that roam our neighborhood. We have also seen raccoons in our backyard. So, other than being upset that the racket woke us up...I did not give it much thought and quickly went back to sleep. However, when I got up at 5:30 and went downstairs to feed Maverick & Martina, I noticed that she was not under my feet. She stays constantly hungry and usually trips me up as I walk to their bowls. But not today...I could not find her anywhere. Much calling, and coaxing...but to no avail.
As I went room to room with a flashlight looking under every little hiding space, I rounded the corner of the living room and came to a heart-pounding sight. The screen to the window was completely out and the window was wide-open, so there was this gapping hole, which had (as we discovered) served as an exit door for Martina. She was gone.
I woke Steven and we threw on our clothes to begin to walk the neighborhood in search of her. It became apparent to us that the screeching and growling we heard this morning was probably her. But, before we actually got out of the door, she came running up being chased by one of the stray cats. She was unharmed and other than being her hungry self, seems no worse for the adventure.
The praise is that we realize that for about 3 hours our home was open to anyone and anything that might have wanted to invade. Just as Martina went out...other cats, raccoons, or intruders could have come in. :-( So, we say "Thank You Lord" for the protection of our home...and our Martina!
